Northbound. Siding to the left of main. Another track to the left of the elevator also services a lumber company, The small freight house was to the left of the loco. The end of the depot facing us was the waiting roon and freight LCL on north end.

Northbound. The locomotive is at the location of the PRR diamond. It was protected by stop signs. The steel framework was after PC. The Depot is a yellow building. The Elevator is in the distance.

Looking north, on the left is a roadbed for a 67 car siding. It was removed ca. 1952. The depot sat just south of truck in distance.

Lafontaine IN - 1975 - Map
Northbound. The bridge is the one that #75 fell into one rainy day. Switch north of bridge for track west of main. Stock yard between switch and crossing. Elevator north of crossing and north of elevator a spot to dump coal. North of that track used as team track with a switch at the north end. On the right south of the crossing was a switch into the elevator on right. A stub track holding two cars. North of crossing right side depot. In the middle of curve siding, a switch on the right.

Kent Tower. Northbound with clear indication. Kent siding was to the right. The two tracks on the left were NKP Railroad.

Northbound. A clear indication on the approach signal to Kent interlocking. A perfect example of an automatic signal in non-automatic territory. The south switch to Kent siding is located at the bridge ahead. Beyond the bridge it curves to the right.

Northbound. Elevator of left at tall building. The depot was on the right at the large north building. House track was to the right of the bridge on another bridge.

Fairmount IN - 1975
Northbound. The track on the left serviced the factory on the left, the elevator, stock pens and a lumber company. The depot is beyond the crossing on the right. The siding switch is 100 ft north of the depot. On the right along the pole line, a connecting track from the depot to a PRR track that ran to Muncie IN.

Edwin Pasko, one time part owner of the elevator, gave me these facts.
"We shipped our first 100 car train in the fall of 1972. And we shipped our last train in the spring of 1982, Our average for 10 years was twelve trains per year."

Markleville IN - 1950
The south switch to the siding is beyond the curve. The tool is a bolt machine. The men are tightening bolts on the angle bars, The track has been retied, new ballast and resurfaced. Tightening and replacing bolts is the last step in the repair.

Southbound local after crossing highway 234. Notice the silver pole. This is the approach restricting indication for the home signal at Shirley. At these telephone pole on the right is where the water tank and water plug was located on the left side of the photo. The north siding switch was located at the signal.

The depot was located on the left near the two large houses. Looking south, at the crossing, you can see the flashers and the telephone booth. On right side of the track at the crossing was a grocery store and I imagine a hotel in the upstairs.

Maurice worked the Michigan Division from 1947-1981. He then worked on the Bee Line from 1981-1992. From 1947 until august 1950, he worked on the section at Shirley and Markleville. In 1950 he started firing on steam and then on through the diesels. Maurice said, "I had the pleasure of working with C. C. Staley and Ron Buser many times."
