Did the IR have interchange with any of the other roads in Anderson? Steve
(Ans) No. There were no other roads in Anderson. There were in
Alexandria, Kokomo, Muncie, Marion and Elwood although UTC
bought out several of them as it grew. The UTC had hourly
service to Summitville for a connection to Marion in 1900!
Where are they when you need them the most? :-(

Roger, my fault , I was thinking Steam railroads when I
was talking interchange. THI&E in Crawfordsville had a very
friendly interchange with the Monon as it did north of
Limedale, I just wondered if it was the same at Anderson
with the traction company.
Steve Long
(Ans) No. The Pennsy in North Anderson did have a line into
the power plant. UTC owned the link track from their complex
to the PRR. Also, I believe that there may also have been an
interchange with the Pennsy at the Junction (Delco Tower)
However, Anderson had an excellent steam railroad network in
the Anderson Belt Ry which the Pennsy came to own. It had a
hammer lock on almost all of the factories in the area and
there were many. UTC was confined to the usual l.c.l. and
relatively minor freight traffic. Indianapolis, Marion and
Muncie were much better off in that respect than was Anderson.
If I understand it right, the THI&E was at the end of a
network of interurban lines running into Ohio and was able
to handle freight transfers.
