Railroads
The Midland Railroad Company was organized in July 1883 and proceeded to build the road west from Noblesville. The railway was completed to near Waveland, Indiana in 1888. The tracks passed Eagletown about one-eighth mile south of S.R. 32. During the early years when the railroad operated a passenger train, scheduled stops were made at the Eagletown Depot near Washington Street. Many Westfield High School students from the Eagletown community, including some from the Lamong neighborhood walked to the Eagletown Depot to ride the Midland train into Westfield in the morning and to return after classes were over in the afternoon. The Midland morning schedule had an east bound train which made stops at Gadsden, Rosston, Jolietville and Eagletown prior to Westfield; therefore, the train was convenient transportation used by the students from all these outlying communities. The west bound afternoon train returned the students to their home community.
The Midland discontinued passenger service some time in the 192O's and the Eagletown Depot was closed after freight service was discontinued. The depot building has since been moved away from Eagletown.
At the end of World War II the Midland upgraded to diesel-electric locomotives and a heavy duty track. Business deteriorated to only hauling farmers grain from the elevators at Gadsden and Rosston during the fall of the year during the decade of the seventies. By 1980 the Midland ceased operation and most of the track through Eagletown has been removed and the right-of-way abandoned.
