Years ago, when the kids were small, a train-loving co-worker told me that a steamer was going to be rolling through Cleveland. I packed all five of us in the van and we went to a location (recommended) where we could see and hear the train. Well... that train grabbed our attention, focus, and caused us to lose some rubber off of our car tires. We were so excited by the train (and its whistle) that we raced back to the van, and chased it for miles and miles. Then, it stopped for a while... chuffed forward and back again. So, we found a safe place to park and set off on foot. The kids (I was the biggest kid that day) got to see it up close. Steam, hissing, the whistle, the bell, and the sound of the engine as the wheels started again...
It was a delightful journey down memory lane! I convinced myself that you took me to see that same loco when I was a boy. I'm still convinced that I saw that steamer before. That whistle. Haunting and so clear...

Yes. That's the 765. It has been rebuilt since 1985 and is still going strong.

Tom sez...
We saw it in 2011. Seems like a lifetime ago…
